Baldur’s Gate 3 fans will be happy to hear that Larian Studios has plans to introduce cross-play options to PC and console in the future.

With the PC version releasing at the start of August and the PlayStation 5 version releasing today, players are getting stuck into the latest instalment in the Baldur’s Gate series.

However, with the Xbox version arriving later this year, some players are wondering if they will ever be able to play with friends on different platforms.

Luckily, this could soon be an option.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Will Get PC And Console Cross-Play

In an interview with Eurogamer, Larian’s director of publishing Michael Douse revealed that the studio always intended to include cross-play options. However, they soon realised that it was too much work to do before launch.

“It was always in the planning,” Douse says, “but we knew it wouldn’t be for launch. It’s in the roadmap, and though we have an idea of when we’d like to get it ready for, we don’t want to put a date on it until we’re sure.”

Although there is no date as of yet, it is reassuring to know that the team is working on it.

As it stands, the PlayStation 5 supports online multiplayer as well as split screen local co-op. However, the performance for the latter reportedly leaves a lot to be desired.
