Baldur’s Gate 3 Companions Were Not Originally Meant To Be THAT Horny

It has been revealed that Larian’s latest RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 was not originally supposed to feature companions who were that horny.

With a feature that allows your playable character to romance the companions you travel alongside of, a little bit of sexual attraction is to be expected.

However, Larian Studios has recently revealed that some of the companions (we’re looking at you, Gale) were not actually supposed to be that horny and ready for romance.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Bug

It turns out that the eagerness was actually the result of a now fixed bug and not actually a feature of the game.

This news comes courtesy of BG3’s director Swen Vincke who was recently interviewed by TheGamer. It was here he spoke about the companion’s approval system and how it had a few problems at the start.

“So… it was a bug,” Vincke says. “The approval thresholds were too low when we shipped. That’s why they were so horny in the beginning. It wasn’t supposed to be that way. We’ve fixed it since, at least for some of them. We’re still fixing a few of them.”

That Explains It

So if you found Gale was a bit too eager after giving him just one pair of boots to chew on, you now know why.

“It wasn’t intended. Especially Gale. [He] wasn’t supposed to be like, instantly there. There were a lot of people that enjoyed it. But it was too fast. It was supposed to simulate how real relationships are,” Vincke continues.

As mentioned, the approval system has since been fixed so wooing Gale might take a lot longer (but hopefully not as long as it takes to get on Astarion’s good side).
