A little over five months since the release of ARK: Survival Ascended, the first DLC has come to the game in the form of ARK: Scorched Earth. This DLC comes with a slew of new changes and features compared to its original release including a new optional DLC called ARK: Bob’s Tall Tales. What is ARK: Bob’s Tall Tales DLC?

The ARK: Bob’s Tall Tales is a new DLC that is launching alongside the ARK: Survival Ascended version of the Scorched Earth map on April 1, 2024. Despite the release date, it is not an April Fools joke. The DLC will actually add new content to several ARK: Survival Ascended versions of maps starting with Scorched Earth. It will then add new content to Abberation in Q4 2024, and finally Extinction in Q1 2025. The price of ARK: Bob’s Tall Tales $29.99 on both PC and consoles and the DLC persists throughout the map releases.

Do you need to buy ARK: Bob’s Tall Tales to play Scorched Earth?

No, you do not need to buy ARK: Bob’s Tall Tales to play the new ARK: Survival Ascended version of the Scorched Earth map. It is its own separate DLC. However, there are some new engrams, dinosaurs, and other content added in the Bob’s Tall Tales DLC that you will not have access to. If you choose to purchase the DLC at any time, including for future map releases, it will still give you content for Scorched Earth and other released maps.

What new content and features does it add?

The Scorched Earth content from ARK: Bob’s Tall Tales is called Frontier Showdown, and features a narrative-driven tale from Bob voiced by Karl Urban in a western frontier. Here is all the new content in ARK: Bob’s Tall Tales:

• New Dinosaur: Oasisaur (as pictured above)
• Prefab buildings and building materials for Western-themed frontier-style structures.
• A new Caravan cart that can be built on and pulled by bigger dinosaurs.
• New western-theme skins and clothing.
• Trains. Yep, I said trains.
• A digging system that allows you to dig for treasure.
• The ability to build and play a piano to create your own music.

Overall, it’s obviously up to you if you feel there is another content in ARK: Bob’s Tall Tales to justify the price. Just keep in mind it will also add new content ti Abberation and later Exctinction.
