1 month ago 63

Rise of the Ronin features an extensive character creation system. However, every aspect of your character, including their starting stats, recommended weapons, special abilities, and overall gameplay experience, depends on their Blade Sharpening Origin.

Players choose their blade-sharpening origin at the beginning, setting the tone for the entire game. To this end, understanding how the origins system works and each origin’s features is crucial. This guide ranks all Blade Sharpening Origins in Rise of the Ronin and covers everything they offer to help you make an informed and strategic choice.

6. Killer

Rise of the Ronin Killer

Killer is one of the most popular blade-sharpening origins in Rise of the Ronin, not because it is the first choice but because of its impressive stats and abilities. It focuses on Strength as its primary stat and offers the highest Strength stats of all six origins, rated at 78.

Each primary stat affects various secondary stats. For the Killer origin, Strength affects Primary Attack and Primary Defense. Primary Defense lessens the damage you take from enemy attacks, while Primary Attack increases the damage your primary weapon deals. Additionally, you can collect three Rare Skill Points, including Personal Bonds, Fugitive Rewards, and Completion Rewards.

The Killer origin recommends the Katana and Odachi, two of the best weapons in the game. The Katana is versatile and easy to use, while the Odachi is large and can inflict significant damage. Moreover, you also obtain Counterspark as a special ability, enabling you to deflect arrows and bullets using your swords when engaged in long-range combat.

5. Breaker

Breaker

Breaker is optimized for the Dexterity primary stat, rated at 77. Dexterity affects Infliction and Adaptability, two secondary stats associated with status ailments. Infliction enables you to inflict various status ailments on your enemies, including Poison, Paralysis, Flammable, Burn, and Dizzy. Status ailments have varying effects generally designed to weaken your enemies. In contrast, Adaptability increases your resistance to any status ailments your enemies inflict on you.

Breakers are proficient in Ninjutsu, making them formidable fighters. They wield the Paired Swords, one of the most versatile weapons in the game. The swords are suitable for all combat tactics, from evading attacks to breaking your enemies’ guard. Interestingly, Paired Swords also enable blade flashes, helping you restore some of your lost Ki during battle. Breakers also get the Bayonet, a rifle with a sword attached to the muzzle, which is reliable in both long-range and close-range combat.

Dexterity facilitates speed and strength. To this end, it makes sense that Breaker unlocks a special ability called Rapid Assassinations, enabling you to take your enemies down faster. Moreover, you can unlock various Rare Skill Points, including Personal Bonds, Completion Rewards, and Training Rewards.

4. Seducer

Seducer

Deception goes a long way in war, as has been demonstrated several times in real-life history. The Seducer Blade Sharpening Origin is based on this concept. It focuses on the Charm primary stat, enabling you to deceive and confuse your enemies into making deadly mistakes. Notably, Seducer also has a higher strength rating than all other origins except Killer, which makes it a formidable fighting class.

The Seducer has two recommended weapons: the Oxtail Blade and Polearm. On the one hand, the Oxtail Blade is optimized for mid-air attacks; hence, it is prudent to invest in Dexterity skills. On the other hand, the Polearm blends the best aspects of the Spear and Odachi, enabling you to fight multiple adversaries via lunging, slashing, and sweeping attacks. The origin also unlocks the Speechcraft Liar special ability, enabling you to tell lies to the interlocutor and increasing your enemies’ panic time.

The Seducer’s Charm primary stat affects three secondary stats, including Poise, Ki Recovery, and Luck. Interestingly, Poise reduces the Ki lost from enemy attacks, while Ki recovery increases the Ki regeneration speed. These two stats are crucial, considering you need enough Ki to do virtually everything. The third secondary stat, Luck, increases the rate of item drops after beating your enemies.

3. Sapper

Sapper

Sapper is the smartest Blade Sharpening Origin in Rise of the Ronin, considering that its primary stat is Intellect. Notably, Intellect also helps with weapon proficiency, in addition to making smart and strategic decisions. Sappers are especially proficient at close-range weapons, which is why the recommended weapons include the Spear and Saber. The Saber is small and flexible, enabling you to strike and evade quickly. The Spear is ideal for melee attacks and can unleash spinning attacks when fighting multiple enemies.

Sapper’s special ability is Medicinal Pills, increasing your variety of healing items and boosting your survivability. Additionally, it has an impact on Stagger and Secondary Attack, raising the damage your subweapons deal to your opponents and decreasing their Ki damage. Moreover, you also earn Personal Bonds, Completion Rewards, and Fugitive Rewards as Rare Skill Points.

2. Beginner

Beginner

Beginner doesn’t feature any specializations and has equal primary stats, all rated at 75. To this end, it essentially functions as a blank slate for you to personalize as you wish.

This origin doesn’t have any recommended weapons, as the equal primary stats enable you to work with any weapon. Unfortunately, it also doesn’t unlock any special abilities or affect secondary stats, which makes the gameplay a bit more difficult and slows your progress to peak proficiency.

Interestingly, while the Beginner Origin is difficult, it is ideal for learning how the game works. The shape-on approach to building your character enables you to master the game’s in-depth mechanics.

1. Unsharpened

 Unsharpened Blade Sharpening Origin

Unsharpened also lacks a special skill and the primary stats are equal, meaning that it doesn’t affect secondary stats. As such, it functions like a blank slate, just like the Beginner origin. However, unlike Beginner, Unsharpened features lower primary stats, all rated at 70. To this end, mastering skills and weapons takes more time and effort, making the gameplay more difficult. As such, it is the ideal origin for players looking for a challenge.
