1999 debuts new exclusive anime short from arthouse studio The Line
  • Warframe: 1999, the upcoming prequel-slash-expansion, has debuted a new anime short
  • Coming to us from arthouse studio The Line, it features the protoframes and plenty of action
  • See them taking on the Techrot and start digging for any more plot clues if you fancy

While Digital Extremes' galaxy-spanning Warframe already has a complex storyline, things have only gotten more intriguing and mysterious with each new thing we learn about the upcoming expansion Warframe: 1999. And now, a new anime short from arthouse studio The Line offers an even more tantalising glimpse.

Set in, well, the year 1999, the expansion itself focuses on a group of humans dubbed "Protoframes", the seeming predecessors to the Warframes as you know them. Pursuing the enigmatic Dr Entrati and duking it out with the disturbing Techrot infestation, the Warframe fandom has had a field day picking apart every new bit of info that's been released.

The newly-released anime short, entitled "The Hex" may be only a little over a minute and thirty seconds, but it's still jam-packed with plenty of action and stunning animation. And, I'm sure, there'll be plenty of little details for those of you who study Warframe in-depth to pick apart. Check it out below!

Animesque

Although speaking of animesque, it is a bit odd to call The Line (a studio based and founded in England) and their productions "anime". But then, after decades spent as a mixture of punchline and mysterious exotic outsider art, it seems anime has become a byword for "animation for adults". Not that I'm complaining mind you, as they seem to have done a tremendous job on the new Warframe short.

Speaking of which, you've surely already pre-registered for Warframe: 1999, right? No? Well, get on it! Because Android pre-reg is open right now!
