Seems like nowadays virtually everything in gaming has some kind of competitive element tied to it. And why not? The esports scene is arguably the reason some releases have persisted this long, and it looks as if Netmarble's Solo Leveling: Arise Championship 2025 (announced earlier this year) is hoping to bring such a pedigree to the hit manhwa-inspired release.

It's certainly interesting to see something like Solo Leveling: Arise receiving a competitive tournament. But starting February 21st preliminaries applications will be open to all players who have accrued 1000 or more points in the Battlefield of Time season 7. Taking place from the 21st to March 9th, the competition will be split into an Asian and International league, with four maps from the Battlefield of Time being available.

Competitors will need to compete in these four maps and combine their fastest record from each map to determine their rank. The top eight overall participants from each league will then have the chance to progress onwards to the SLC grand finals in Korea on April 12th, with the lion's share of a 20 million KRW prize pool on the line.

Going solo

If you've detected a hint of scepticism in my writing, then good on you. But I don't think it's unreasonable to find a competitive championship for a mainly single-player release to be a bit odd. Then again given the popularity of Solo Leveling's parent series, and the esports scene being so vibrant in South Korea, I've no doubt that this championship is going to draw in plenty of viewers.
