At least there'll be plenty to play when it does launch

Once Human launches its new Way of Winter expansion as mobile launch looms
  • Once Human is set to launch its newest scenario with The Way of Winter
  • Ahead of an expected January mobile launch, it's another reason to get excited
  • Sadly, it may not be around by the time mobile players get their hands on the game

Once Human, the ARPG from NetEase Games, is set to launch its latest expansion with Way of Winter. Taking players in this cryptid-inspired survival-focused game to a brand new area in the far reaches of Nalcott, it promises to make major new additions to the title.

Of course, you may remember that although it's coming to mobile Once Human is still a ways off from launch. However, I've wanted to cover upcoming expansions, especially since it means you can be prepped for what's included when it does hit storefronts in January of 2025 according to the iOS App Store entry.

Way of Winter introduces temperature, as you might expect, which provides a new consistent threat to players, but the new thermal tower building offers a familiar (*cough* Frostpunk *cough*) way to endure the cold. Meanwhile, there's a whole new map and monsters for players to encounter as they endure the new polar-inspired areas.

Baby, it's cold outside

Given that The Way of Winter is set to be hosted for a certain period of time, as it functions as its own scenario, I'd hazard a guess it may be out of rotation by the time of the mobile launch. This is a shame, given Once Human is a game that's really been highly anticipated, and the focus on PC is an unusual one for NetEase. Still, with Destiny: Rising newly announced, it's clear the Chinese development titan isn't done with handheld anytime soon.

In the meantime if you need some games to tide you over there's no better time than now to check out the latest entry in our regular feature of the top five launches to try this week.

Better yet, if you're still stuck for things to play there's our own definitive list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far) with all the top launches from the last ten months.
