Hogwarts Legacy 2 Is In Development Alongside A Reported ‘Refreshed’ Version Of The Original Game

1 week ago 33

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has backed up previous reports that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is now in active development at Avalanche Software, and claims the studio is also planning a ‘refreshed version’ of the original 2023 Wizarding World RPG.

The news comes from Schreier’s report about the state of Warner Bros. Games following the commercial disappointment of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, where he claims that developer Rocksteady Studio is working on a new single-player Batman game. In addition, the report states that the Wonder Woman video game is still years off from release and was rebooted early last year.

Avalanche is now working on new content for Hogwarts Legacy as well as a sequel. But questions linger about whether the success of the first game can even be replicated, let alone surpassed — or if the pent-up demand has already been satiated. The company had been counting on Suicide Squad and MultiVersus to generate revenue throughout this year, but instead has ended support for both games. In the wake of this miscalculation, Warner Bros. now has little to release in the stretch ahead, beyond a refreshed version of the 2023 hit Hogwarts Legacy, a Lego title, and a few mobile games.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a new version of Hogwarts Legacy, as back in June last year Schreier himself claimed that a Director’s Cut version the fantasy-RPG was in the pipeline with a number of Rocksteady employees helping out.

Hogwarts Legacy was released for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in February 2023, with a PS4 and Xbox One version arriving in July and a Nintendo Switch version bringing up the rear in November. The game was a huge commercial success, and back in February last year was crowned the best-selling game of 2023, beating The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
