Let the galaxy burn
- EVE Galaxy Conquest is a new 4x strategy game that's releasing today
- It promises the wide-scale action of galactic MMORPG EVE to mobile
- Galaxy Conquest lets you choose between four factions and command dozens of unique ships
When it comes to massively multiplayer landmarks, EVE Online is a standout. There's scarcely anyone you talk to who hasn't at least heard of it, and while many will express their frustration with various aspects, just as many profess that there's nothing quite like it on any platform. But CCP Games wants to challenge that notion with the release of the new, officially-sanctioned mobile spin-off, EVE Galaxy Conquest.
Those hoping for a fully-realised version of EVE Online for mobile may be slightly disappointed, as Galaxy Conquest takes the 4x route. You'll command iconic ships from the EVE universe, recruit heroes and lead your chosen faction to victory.
Coming to iOS and Android today, EVE Galaxy Conquest's surprise launch is accompanied by news that it'll feature seasonal content updates, where players can compete to rise through the ranks. But beware, because winning in one season will paint a very large target on your back for the next.
Eve of conquest
EVE Online is one of those games that sells itself on the depth and complexity of its systems. This is, after all, one of those perennial sources where tales of both conquest and utter defeat are often sourced, and it can be equal parts heartening and infuriating. What I'm saying is that I'm not sure just how well Galaxy Conquest can stand out simply by leveraging the EVE name. Here's hoping that the 4x element is deep enough and that it can encourage the competitive, dedicated player base that makes EVE such a standout to flock to mobile.
