Mobile, console, PC and more?

The PXN P5 is the latest attempt to make a truly universal gaming controller
  • The PXN P5 is the latest pitch a company has made for a universal controller
  • It boasts all manner of high-tech gubbins and has compatibility with everything from consoles to cars
  • But will it be what people need, or want?

When it comes to controllers, I feel mobile still doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. This is, after all, one of the biggest gaming platforms but apart from the adaptable snap-on controllers, we've rarely seen much innovation. Especially in cross-compatibility which seems to pretty much be Bluetooth or nothing. Not so with the PXN P5 controller, or so the manufacturer claims.

The P5 is marketed not just as a console and PC controller, but also as one for everything from the Nintendo Switch to in-car systems and, yes, mobile as well! Boasting all the buzz-word-filled gubbins like Dual Hall-effect magnetic joysticks (whatever that is), it also boasts adaptable triggers that can have their sensitivity manually tweaked to fit your preferred style of play.

The P5 will be available via PXN and Amazon for a retail price of £29.99. It'll be compatible with: PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, Android TV and Tesla.

Universality

PXN is not exactly a known quantity on our end, which is to say nothing against the quality of their products of course. But the landscape for controllers that are cross-compatible with mobile is a tough one, even if those made purely for smartphones are a bit lacking in my opinion.

At the same time, I'm hardly going to complain that there are more options available. In fact, I think the only thing that stands out as confusing to me about this device is the fact that it's cross-compatible with Tesla of all things. I suppose there must be a subset of quite hardcore gamers for it, eh?

In the meantime though, if this is going to kick off an intense interest in gaming for you, maybe streaming is the way to go. And if so, you can check out our review of the Wavo POD Streamer Set to see what we thought of that simple set-up kit!
