Death Stranding 2 is currently due to arrive sometime in 2025, with an official gameplay yet to be revealed. But since it’s arriving next year, you’d think that the team at Kojima Productions would be relatively close to the finish line. Not exactly, according to Hideo Kojima.

During a panel discussion at Tokyo Game Show 2024, Kojima showed off the game’s photo mode, the Japanese voice cast joined him on stage to talk about the game, and showed off some new merchandise.

He also estimated that the game is “30-40% complete”, while also reassuring that it is still meant to arrive in 2025. Kojima even hinted that they do even have an actual release date in mind, but of course did not share that with the audience.

If the game is still only ’30-40%’ finished as we get to the end of 2024, then that leads us to speculate two things about the game.

First, that it’ll arrive in the back-half of 2025 and second, that it’s not yet content complete, and that it’ll hit that mark likely sometime in the first-half of 2025, with the rest of the time spent polishing.

And a third, even more speculative thing, that it’ll be coming down to the wire ahead of release date. We’ll see how it goes.
