Following news that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been delayed to February 2025, Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming has dived into the alleged reasons that saw Ubisoft postpone the project, which comes down to many factors including a lack of polishing.

Henderson was quick to first shoot down rumours that the character of Yasuke would be removed from the game. Having said that, he did reveal that the team is looking to address numerous historical and cultural issues, which were raised during external play testing prior to the game’s reveal. This will include alterations to Yasuke’s story and how he is portrayed, and to ensure the game remains historically grounded while slotting into the Assassin’s Creed universe.

The report adds that historical experts were brought in by Ubisoft much later than is usually the case for a project of this size, hence why a lot of these issues were not caught earlier. Miscommunication between the teams also didn’t help.

Elsewhere, Assassin’s Creed Shadows lacked a lot of polish and there were numerous bugs lingering, and as such the game is not currently in a state fit for launch. Henderson added that Ubisoft as implemented some changes to gameplay mechanics and elements that will take time to complete.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
