The Hidden Ones is a martial arts-themed new release from Tencent's Morefun Studios, coming 2025
  • Morefun Studios' Hitori no Shita is not dead!
  • It's back, under the new title The Hidden Ones
  • Featuring 3D brawling, parkour and more, it's set to release in 2025

It's been a while since we've heard anything about Morefun Studios' Hitori no Shita: The Outcast, a 3D action brawler based on the webcomic of the same name. But it seems it's still in development, and we've actually got a glut of news to share! For one, it's not Hitori no Shita anymore, it's just The Hidden Ones, and it's also now got a solid release date set for 2025, with a pre-alpha test in January.

Set in modern-day China it follows young martial artist Zhang Chulan, who discovers the techniques taught to him by his grandfather are, in fact, in very high demand amongst the martial arts world. And they're not about to take "not interested" for an answer.

The latest official gameplay trailer, which you can watch below, shows off some pretty impressive stuff; as well as secondary protagonist Wang Ye. Whether that's the parkour-infused dashing from building to building while dodging projectiles, or the more familiar 3D martial arts dodging, energy projectile throwing and brawling we're all familiar with.

Hidden no longer

Digging up info on the Hidden Ones has been a hassle as if the fact that the series has three (or possibly four) different names wasn't enough. But from a glance, this looks to offer a truly impressive release from Morefun. I think what strikes me most is the grimier, darker aesthetic that, while not wholly realistic, is still a bit more grounded and gritty compared to other 3D ARPGs out there.

However, as above I reckon what will make The Hidden Ones sink or swim is whether or not it can grab audiences that are perhaps not familiar with the source material.

If you're looking for more hands-on kung-fu action though, why not take a look at some of the other top brawlers out there while you wait? Check out our list of the top 25 best fighting games for iOS and Android for more!
