Heroism on the battlefield
- Supremacy 1914 is introducing a major new overhaul with heroes
- These unique units, inspired by real-life people, bring unique skills and abilities to the game
- They'll be deployable only in certain circumstances and require sharp strategic thinking to utilise effectively
World War One strategy game Supremacy 1914 is promising its "most transformative update in years" as the game adds a whole new element in the form of heroes. These exceptional individuals can dramatically change your strategies, bringing unique skills and attributes to the battlefield.
The heroes update promises to add seven of these new units in its inaugural update. Included are famous faces like T.E. Lawrence (of Arabia), Georg "Breakthrough-Müller" Bruchmüller and Viscount Allenby, historical figures bringing unique skills inspired by their real-life roles.
Of course, heroes aren't simple game changers, and you'll need to unlock them with Hero Medals while also keeping in mind the fact you can only include a single hero in each army. You'll also only be able to employ them on certain days and have a recovery timer if they fall in battle.
Heroes of war
The introduction of Heroes is likely to not sit well with some people. I mean the First World War was not exactly a time where individual acts of heroism ever really amounted to much in the grand scheme of things, notwithstanding impressive displays of martial prowess. And for many the idea of adding exceptional individuals to broadly "realistic" battle plans might be a bit of an immersion breaker.
In fairness though, it's clear the folks at Supremacy 1914 have gone some way to balance these new units and use historical inspiration. But at the same time how well it resonates with players depends on how successful this new update is when it gets in their hands.
