SMITE 2 Will Be Free-To-Play Starting Next Week

SMITE 2 has technically been out and available to play on PS5 since last August, but it was also, technically, still in an alpha state. It’ll be entering its open beta phase next week on January 14, 2025, and that’s the same day it’ll be free-to-play for anyone to download.

The news was announced from the official SMITE 2 account on X, telling players to mark their calendars and “get ready to enter into the next era of the Battleground of the Gods!”

Even though next week’s launch will make the game available to anyone willing to download it, the game will still not technically be its full 1.0 version. Which means there will still likely be plenty of changes to come.

It’ll also be interesting to see if the free-to-play launch will include anything special for those who bought into the alpha version and have already been playing for months.

The original SMITE has quietly been one of the world’s biggest MOBA’s for fans of the genre for years. SMITE 2 technically never needed to happen – Titan Forge could’ve just kept updating SMITE.

But instead we have a full-blown SMITE 2. Hopefully the decision to make a proper sequel pays off.
