The annual party returns

Pokémon Go is wrapping up the year in style with the New Year’s 2025 event
  • The New Year’s event will take place between December 30th and January 1st
  • Several themed Pokémon in different outfits will be available
  • Field and Timed Research tasks can be completed for more rewards

As 2024 winds down, Pokémon Go is ringing in the New Year with the return of its annual festive event, which is set to begin on December 30th. Until January 1st, 2025, you can enjoy themed bonuses, special Pokémon encounters, and plenty of ways to kick off 2025 in style.

Pokémon GO is already closing off in style with the special Community Day event which sees all the former Community Day Pokémon return for the event. This takes place between December 21st and 22nd, and a week later you can take part in all the new festivities of the New Year’s event.

One highlight of the event is the chance to earn 2,025 XP for each Pokémon caught with an Excellent Throw. As you explore, look up and enjoy the festive fireworks lighting up the skies throughout the event. You’ll be surrounded by loads of New Year décor to make the entire experience more immersive.

During the event, you’ll notice a greater chance of finding themed Pokémon as well. Jigglypuff with a ribbon, Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit, and Wurmple donning a party hat will appear more frequently in the wild. If you’re lucky, you might even come across their Shiny forms.

Raids are also getting a festive boost. In one-star raids, you’ll face Pikachu wearing a snowflake beanie, while three-star raids feature Raticate and Wobbuffet, both sporting party hats. All three have increased Shiny rates during the event.

If you're more quest-oriented, take part in the Field Research and Timed Research tasks to gain multiple more encounters. Plus, a Paid Timed Research for $2 offers exclusive rewards such as three Premium Battle Passes, three Lucky Eggs, 2,025 Stardust, and encounters with event Pokémon.

Meanwhile, the Ultra Holiday Box remains in the Pokémon GO Web Store for $4.99. It includes a Pokémon Storage upgrade, an Item Bag upgrade, and 17 Rare Candies. And for some freebies, be sure to redeem these Pokémon Go codes!
