Pokémon Go is getting ready for Christmas with the Holiday Part 1 event later this month

• Holiday part one will take place from December 17th to 22nd
• Several Pokémon will appear in themed outfits
• Participate in challenges to earn rewards

The festive season is just around the corner as Niantic is set to begin the first part of their Holiday event in Pokémon Go. Running from December 17th to 22nd, this event offers a variety of bonuses, special encounters, and seasonal challenges to enjoy.

During the Holiday Part One, you’ll earn double XP for catching Pokémon and benefit from a halved hatch distance for Eggs. A costumed Dedenne in holiday attire will make its debut, with the chance to encounter a shiny version if you’re lucky. Alongside Dedenne, Shiny Sandygast will also be making an appearance for the first time.

In the wild, you’ll find Pokémon like Alolan Sandshrew, Swinub, and Darumaka. Raids will feature a festive lineup too. One-star raids include Pikachu in a Winter Carnival outfit and Psyduck in holiday attire. Take on a greater challenge and you’ll find Glaceon in an Undersea Holiday outfit and Cryogonal in three-star raids, while Mega Raids will feature Mega Latias and Mega Latios.

Hatching seven km Eggs during this period could reveal Pokémon such as Hisuian Growlithe or Cubchoo wearing a holiday ribbon. If you’re after rewards, then event-themed Field Research tasks and a paid Timed Research option for $2.00 are available, offering encounters with themed Pokémon, Premium Battle Passes, and more. 

Collection Challenges also return, focused on catching and raiding. Completing these will earn you Stardust, Poké Balls, and Great Balls.
