  • Pixel Starships will host a crossover event with Double Dragon
  • It brings characters like Billy and Jimmy Lee to the sci-fi strategy game
  • There are also missions to complete with several rewards on offer

In one of the more unexpected collaborations I've heard in a while, SavySoda has announced that Pixel Starships will host a crossover event with arcade classic beat 'em up Double Dragon. I suppose, in space, no one can hear you get spin-kicked to the face? Or another witty remark that's actually funny.

During the limited-time partnership, you can recruit characters from Double Dragon, including Billy and Jimmy Lee. They will join your team as elite-level crew members, each bringing abilities that draw inspiration from their signature moves. How will that be useful when managing a spaceship? I don't know, but I fully support it.

Aside from recruiting a few chaps who know how to throw punches and kicks, the collaboration also brings Double Dragon-themed missions for you to work through. It presents you with a series of challenges to overcome, with rewards on offer for those dedicated enough to complete them. And that's not all. You will also find ship skins, themed rooms and other items inspired by the beat 'em up to appropriately decorate your spacecraft to suit the occasion.

If you're a fan of Double Dragon but aren't familiar with Pixel Starships, let me give you a quick rundown. It's an FTL-esque strategy game where you build your ship and recruit its crew before jetting off into space to test your captaincy skills in PvP. The battles aren't your only concern, though. Finding resources, acting diplomatically on occasion and good old-fashioned exploring are also crucial to becoming a successful spacefarer.

Pixel Starships is available now on the App Store and Google Play as a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. You can download it for your preferred platform using the buttons below. What's that? Okay, fine. It's also on Steam if you're into that kind of thing.
