New PlayStation Portal Update Adds Cloud Streaming Beta For Over 120 PS5 Games

PS Plus Premium players who own a PlayStation Portal are about to get a little more out of their Portal experience and Premium subscription.

A new system update for the PlayStation Portal from Sony adds a Cloud Streaming Beta for select PS5 games on the PS Plus Premium catalog of titles.

The update will also add refined volume adjustment settings, but adding cloud streaming to a device that probably should’ve had that support at launch is the big news here.

Especially when players have over 120 games to choose from to test this functionality out. If you have your Portal at the ready and want to give cloud streaming a try, then after updating your device follow these easy steps:

  • Head to Settings while on your PS Portal
  • Select the newly added Cloud Streaming Beta option
  • Toggle the beta “On” and you’ll be good to go

Once toggled on, a PlayStation Blog post says that you should be able to see a new option on the Portal’s Home screen, where you can access games through the cloud.

Regarding the volume changes, the new update will now allow players to adjust speaker audio output to make the volume lower and players will be able to adjust the settings of whichever PlayStation Link device they have connected from the PS Portal settings menu.

PlayStation does also warn that there are a few features that aren’t included in the beta, including Game Trials and the ability to stream games you’ve purchased on the PlayStation Store.

Which means that only those games specifically listed as available for Cloud Streaming will be available to stream. Party voice chat, game invites, 3D audio and the create button will also be unavailable in the beta.

Another big missing feature is that this beta is only for PS5 games, so you won’t be able to stream your favourite PS4 or PS3 titles.
