Resident Evil Movie Reboot Is In The Pipeline With Zach Cregger Set To Write & Direct

Zach Cregger is attached to write and direct a new Resident Evil movie that will reboot the big screen adaptation of Capcom’s survival horror franchise.

This has kicked off a bidding war between four studios including Warner Bros. and Netflix, with Constantin Films set to produce alongside PlayStation Productions. It should be noted that the former has held the rights to Resident Evil since the late 1990s, as was behind the previous films.

While details are thin on the ground right now, it is believed Cregger’s reboot will attempt to be more faithful to the source material and be based around the horror roots of the franchise.

The Resident Evil movies were previously adapted by Paul W.S. Anderson and starred Milla Jovovich as Alice, an original character that didn’t appear in the games. Six films were made that generated over one billion dollars at the box office, and the series was rebooted with 2021’s Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City, which adapted the stories of Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2.

Capcom will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil in 2026 and is currently working on the next mainline entry in the franchise, as well as rumoured remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica.
