New Killer Klowns map sees Steam player numbers double, but there’s a catch

Dead by Daylight needs some competition in the world, and recently offerings like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Killer Klowns from Outer Space The Game have been able to step into the space once solely held by that title. Unfortunately, the latter of those has had a rough time since launch with players on Steam turning away from it, but a newly released patch and map has seen a turnaround in that downward trend. At least, partially.

Over recent weeks Killer Klowns from Outer Space The Game has seen its player numbers on Steam often fall into the single digits, a potential death knell for any multiplayer game. Despite that, its developer has been working on a few things to bring people back, such as introducing Elvira into the game. Now, a new map has arrived alongside patch 1.6.0, with the hope that it’ll reinvigorate Killer Klowns’ flagging player numbers.

Since this map’s launch, player numbers have roughly doubled from their prior peaks. That said, there’s a massive caveat to apply here. The increase still only takes its daily peak from roughly 56 players online at any one time, to 116. Obviously while we can’t see any information about how many people are playing on PlayStation or Xbox, it does indicate that despite some fans coming back to try out the new map, there are still some problems.

For its part, the 1.6.0 patch is a hefty proposition. Not only is there a new map, the 1980s-style neon-filled Crescent Cove Mall, but there’s also a slew of new Halloween cosmetics for survivors to buy, as well as plenty of changes and improvements. You’ll also find a ton of bug fixes, such as sorting out problems with Elvira’s hair to stopping the boat from escaping without any humans on board.

The 1.6.0 patch for Killer Klowns from Outer Space The Game is out now. If you’d like to check it out for yourself, head over to the full update notes to learn more.
