MLB The Show 25: Everything We Know

22 hours ago 17

One thing we can always count on is annual franchises. They often deliver new titles every year, even if some franchises barely make significant feature updates. MLB The Show is one of the annual franchises with a steady following. It’s a baseball video game series and the sole Major League Baseball (MLB) simulation video game on consoles since 2014. The first title launched in 2006, though, titled MLB 06: The Show on the PS2, and since then, we’ve enjoyed a new entry till the latest MLB The Show 24 in 2024.

What is MLB The Show 25?

 Everything We Know

MLB The Show 25 is the upcoming new title in the MLB: The Show baseball simulation video game series. It’ll be the definitive way for baseball fans to build out their baseball dreams, carving out a unique journey for themselves. You can rediscover your love for baseball, climbing the ladder from high school to the Hall of Fame. There’ll be hoops to jump through along the way, of course. Moreover, you’ll interact with iconic baseball stars across fan-favorite game modes.

The upcoming title assures longtime fans of new gameplay updates. Specifically, the game promises “a comprehensive suite of gameplay and quality-of-life enhancements.” So, fingers crossed that the developing team delivers.

Story

The cover athletes for MLB The Show 25 have been revealed to be Paul Skenes, Elly De La Cruz, and Gunnar Henderson. Each baseball star has an interesting profile. Paul Skenes began his baseball career in high school through to college. He perfected his pitching craft at a young age and won the national championship. Later, he became the best overall pick for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2023 MLB Draft. Skenes made his debut in MLB the next season and became the first baseball player to play the All-Star Game one year after being drafted. In the 2024 season, Skenes won the National League Rookie of the Year honors before joining the All-MLB First Team.

Meanwhile, Elly De La Cruz climbed the ranks from the minors to the majors. He made his MLB debut in 2023 with the Cincinnati Reds. Among his praises are his becoming the youngest player to hit the cycle, his cannon-like arm, and his blazing speed. Gunnar Henderson, on the other hand, has scooped up many achievements. He’s the 2023 American League Rookie of the Year. Henderson was the 42nd overall in the 2019 MLB Draft. He joined the MLB in the 2022 season and became the number one prospect on MLB’s Top 100 list in 2023. Later, he earned the AL Rookie of the Year honors and a Silver Slugger Award. In 2024, he started the MLB All-Star Game and competed in the Home Run Derby.

Gameplay

While we still don’t have confirmation of the exact gameplay features we can expect in MLB The Show 25, we do know game modes like Road to the Show will be returning. This is where you choose your baseball star and carve your own path to greatness. Franchise mode will return, too. While we expect to see some quality-of-life improvements to the franchise’s many game modes, there’s a high chance the changes won’t be as significant. We should have more tangible information once the gameplay trailers and feature reveals are made public.

San Diego Studio, in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment, will be bringing MLB The Show 25 to market sometime soon. The two studios have always been at the forefront of the development and publishing of the MLB The Show franchise. Interestingly, the video game series is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Featuring three cover athletes rather than one is the special way San Diego Studio and Sony are celebrating the impeccable milestone.

Trailer

The MLB The Show 25 reveal trailer shines its spotlight on the cover athletes. No, really. That’s all the trailer dives into: a quick introduction to the three revered baseball stars that will feature on the cover of the new game. We do hope, though, that we can get our hands on more details about the actual game. Preferably, the gameplay footage to asses what’s new.

Fortunately, the developing studio assures fans that they will be releasing more weekly feature reveals, including a feature trailer, deep dives featuring MLB Network host Robert Flores, and feature premiers by the developers at the San Diego studio. So, be sure to keep an eye out for the gameplay trailers and more announcements.

You can do so by signing up for the MLB The Show Scouting Report. This way, you’ll get all the latest features, updates, and more baseball stars coming to the new game. You’ll also receive in-game rewards. From April 2025, you’ll receive a unique exclusive pack every month until December 2025 by subscribing to theshow.com. You’ll also potentially receive the Golden Ticket Sweepstakes, which may win you packs, stubs, clothing, autographs, and more.
