Perelesoq on Snow Town Geek Store – Interview Series

If you’re looking to take a trip down memory lane and wax that post-millennial feeling of being in a time capsule of precious memories, multimedia, and 90’s mementos, then you might want to consider delving into Perelesoq’s upcoming game, Snow Town Geek Store. A business simulation game at heart, the title will allow players to manage and develop their own era-appropriate empire—a storefront that will reportedly house countless trinkets, snacks, and other nineties keepsakes, to list just a few of its stock options.

In an attempt to learn more about Snow Town Geek Store, I decided to speak with the team behind the project.

Snow Town Geek Store is an absolute dreamboat for both descendants of the nineties and avid collectors of noughties memorabilia alike. Tell us, what inspired you to choose this era, in particular, and how are you planning to resonate with your target audience?

We focused more on the 2000s rather than the 90s because our team consists of both millennials and zoomers. The 2000s became a shared nostalgic memory of our childhood and youth, and we wanted to convey our feelings through a cozy and fun game. Judging by the audience's reaction, there are many players who want to reminisce with us.

Tell us more about the day-to-day duties of a geek retreat shopkeeper. Aside from having the duty of shipping discs and other memorabilia, what other tasks might a typical shift in the store involve?

Of course, players will interact with customers. The game will feature a variety of short stories about different people with their own struggles and needs, which the player can influence. The goal is to earn as much money as possible because buying a vacation trip for your mom is not an easy task when you're a schoolkid. However, we don’t want the game to stress players out. There will be mini-games to take a break and additional side stories to explore.

I’ll be honest with you and say that, as far as elevator pitches go, you had me at Shrek and Hubba Bubba. But, it seems that there’ll be a lot more to distribute than the odd disc and packet of bubblegum; the description also mentions the distribution of video games, snacks, and other time-appropriate merchandise, too. Please could you tell us more about the products that’ll feature in Snow Town Geek Store?

In the 2000s, kids found themselves in a world where they watched American movies, Japanese anime, played European games, and ate locally popular snacks. We want to bring back as many shared memories from 2001-2007 as possible, things that teenagers from different countries could relate to. These won't always be real-life items—some will be fictional brands from popular franchises. We promise to make the store’s inventory as diverse as possible!

Are we right in thinking that Snow Town Geek Store will allow us to not only cater to our customers’ needs, but also establish the foundations for a black market side hustle, too? Tell us a bit about the darker side of in-game trading, if you’d be so kind.

We don’t want to spoil the exact items that players will be able to trade. However, we can say that the black-market dealings won’t lead to dangerous situations. Players will have to take responsibility if they choose an easier way to make money, but it won’t disrupt the cozy atmosphere of the game.

You’ve recently touched base on another feature that’ll be included in the game: the ability to keep tabs on our character’s general needs and wellbeing. Could you tell us more about that?

We are still working on this aspect of the game. Of course, we’d love for the player to not only sell Snickers but also eat a couple. We’ll see if we can implement this in a way that keeps the gameplay balanced.

We’re not entirely sure whether or not it’s applicablebut would you mind sharing a few insider secrets with us? Do you have any valuable words of advice that you wouldn’t mind sharing with us future shopkeepers?

In the game, you can be more or less efficient, but our goal as game designers is for you to relax and enjoy the experience—through the gameplay, the art, and the story.

Would you mind providing us with a general update on the game’s current status? Say, are we likely to see more of the project in full swing before the second quarter, or is it still too early to tell?

We are aiming for a 2025 release, but it’s still difficult to say exactly when.

Where might we be able to find some more information on Snow Town Geek Store? Are there any important social handles, support networks, or event roadmaps that we ought to be jotting down while we wait for the official debut?

Yes, of course. We have accounts on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter.

Is there anything else you would like to add to this story before we chalk up its conclusion?

If your readers want to suggest nostalgic 2000s items for us to include, they can leave a comment under the trailer on YouTube. We love reading them. Thank you!

Thanks for taking the time to speak with us — we really appreciate it!
