Gordian Quest, an Ultima and D&D-inspired rogulite deckbuilder, will launch for iOS and Android this winter

Today, Aether Sky and Mixed Realms have announced that their roguelite deckbuilder Gordian Quest is heading for iOS and Android this winter. If that name sounds familiar, it's likely because it's previously released on Steam, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, with the PC version holding a healthy 84 score on Metacritic.

Drawing inspiration from Ultima and D&D, Gordian Quest is set in a world stricken by a curse, meaning that wherever you go, there's something untoward waiting to attack you. So, as you progress through these treacherous lands, you will have to assemble a team of heroes, upgrading their skills as you go, if you wish to stay alive.

Of course, as you've likely guessed from the 'roguelite deckbuilder' part of the opening sentence, this is done by gathering cards throughout your adventure. And that also brings the promise of tonnes of replay value. With ten classes and over 100 skills alongside various items, equipment and relics to find, there are plentiful synergies to discover across multiple runs.

To further keep things fresh, there are three modes to choose from: Campaign, Realm, and Adventure. Each offers a slight tweak to the standard formula, throwing different challenges your way, including the option to play endlessly and see how far you can get.

Toss in adjustable difficulty, and this has the potential to be the roguelite deckbuilder you want it to be. That's great news, particularly for someone like me who, while enjoying the genre, is a bit rubbish at it. Likewise, anyone with the smarts for the strategies needed at the higher difficulties is also catered for. At least, that's how it sounds - there's always that one individual who finds everything too easy. 

Gordian Quest will launch on the App Store and Google Play as a premium game this winter. There's not a more specific date than that yet, so stay tuned for updates. But that's okay. There are plenty of excellent roguelikes and roguelites available for iOS to enjoy in the meantime.
