EA Sports FC 25 Was Europe’s Best Selling Game In 2024, While Game Sales Across PC And Console Rose 1%

As we move halfway through the first month of 2025, we’re beginning to look back on the closing reports for 2024, and former GamesIndustry.Biz head Christopher Dring has updated GSD data regarding European game sales for the entire 2024 year, both physical and digital sales data.

On VGC, Dring reports that EA Sports FC 25 was the top selling game of the year in Europe, which isn’t the biggest surprise by any stretch but what’s worth pointing out is that it achieved this mark despite a 5% drop from the sales of EA Sports FC 24 the previous year.

Overall, game sales on both PC platforms and consoles in Europe rose compared to last year, a full 1%. Dring reports that 188.1 million games across PC and console platforms were sold in Europe in 2024 to hit that 1% rise.

Another non-surprise from the report, physical sales in Europe were down, hitting only 56.5 million games sold at retail, a 22% drop from 2023’s sales. While digital sales were up across PC and consoles by 15%, accounting for 131.6 million games sold.

Less than half of the top 20 games sold last year actually released in 2024, with only six games making that list. In fact, out of the top 10 games, only three of them were released in 2024. Two of the three were EA Sports FC 25 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The third, was Arrowhead Games surprise hit, Helldivers 2.

Regarding console hardware sales, PS5 managed to be the best-selling platform though the consoles sales fell 20% compared to 2023, and sales for console hardware overall was down 21% compared to 2023.
