Update [Sun 2nd Feb 2025, 5:30am]:
The Sims made its name on PC, of course, so it’s no surprise to see EA bring back the originals on Windows under the guise of the Legacy Collection.
Still, it sold millions upon millions of copies on the PS2, so we’re a little gutted the publisher’s preservation project doesn’t extend to PlayStation. Perhaps there’s a possibility the first two titles in the series will be ported as part of PS Plus Premium in the future.
Either way, you can buy The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection for $19.99 apiece, or as part of a $39.99 bundle on PC right now. They include all released expansion packs, which is neat.
We’ll check in with EA to see if there are any plans to bring any classic The Sims titles back on PS5 and PS4 at all.
Original Story: The earlier games in EA's The Sims series have been rather difficult to buy and play in modern times, but that seems like it'll soon change. According to Kotaku and a teaser from EA itself, new ports of The Sims 1 and 2 are soon to be released on PC, finally allowing fans to easily dive into these classic titles as the franchise approaches its 25th anniversary.
As things stand, it appears that the games will be made available on computers, but there's no word yet on whether they'll also make it onto consoles. What are the chances, then? Somewhat slim, we'd say, but certainly not outside the realm of possibility.
The Sims has been on consoles in some form or another since 2003, when an adaptation of the original was released for PS2. It was fairly different from the PC classic, though much of the core remained intact.
PS2 and PSP versions of The Sims 2 emerged in 2005, again somewhat different from the original.
The Sims 4 on console is much closer to the PC title than these earlier console versions are to their respective games, but they're not without their fans.
Anyway, The Sims has been on consoles for nearly as long as it's been on PC, albeit in a less uniform manner. We could definitely see The Sims 1 and 2 being brought over to PS5, and if they were, we imagine they'd be the same as they are on PC.
However, The Sims is first and foremost a PC series, so a console port may come later, or may not even happen at all.
We'd absolutely like to see these earlier Sims games come to PS5, and those altered PS2 ports are more than welcome too. What do you think? Would you like to see The Sims 1 and 2 be released for PS5? Discuss in the comments section below.
