BO6 and Warzone Red Light, Green Light mode, explained

The infamous Red Light, Green Light of Squid Game has taken over the CoD world with BO6’s first 2025 update. Although the rules generally stayed the same, Black Ops 6 and Warzone’s version play out slightly differently. We’re here to explain the guidelines of the game with each mode.

How to play Red Light, Green Light in Black Ops 6

Red Light, Green Light mode spans various iterations, including BO6 Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone. It’ll be available to play for a limited period, concluding around the time of Season 2’s release. Black Ops 6 Multiplayer features a dedicated slot for it, where you can play it directly on the playlist. You’ll venture to the once inaccessible Red Card stadium and play three rounds that last two minutes each. When the Young-hee figure lets out a “Green Light,” you must move up to reach the finish line, but when she says, “Red Light,” it’s crucial to stop in your tracks.

If you’re a Squid Game fan, this should be familiar, so try your best to replicate what was done in the show to progress further. While on the run, you’ll also see piggy banks on the field or from downed bodies. Pick them up to earn extra XP for the Squid Game event pass rewards. By Rounds 2 and 3, you’ll have access to weapons and unlock Finishing Moves by collecting blue envelopes.

Take out other players with these randomized weapons to eliminate some of the competition. Nevertheless, using this combat strategy can be dangerous since it may get you on Young-hee’s radar. Use them at your own risk, and watch out for the enemy Operators’ attacks.

Victory in the Red Light, Green Light mode requires crossing the finishing line three times. It may take some time to accomplish, but with determination and practice, you can see how far you’ll get. I will also mention that if your controller has stick drift, it can cause your Operator to be in the ‘Moving’ position despite standing still. It’s a challenge I’ve faced in my gameplay and seen in fellow players. You can attempt to resolve this issue by turning off Sprint Assist, which could cause the problem.

What is Dead Light, Green Light in BO6 Zombies?

Red Light, Green Light takes on a different form in BO6 Zombies’ Citadelle des Morts. The mode is known as “Dead Light, Green Light,” and it has three phases:

  • Green Light phase: Free to move around the map. Earn double Essence.
  • Red Light phase: Every time you move, you’ll lose a certain amount of Essence.
  • Dead Light phase: Enemies are much more hostile in this challenging round.

The Green Light is the most beneficial out of the three since you have the freedom to move around and collect a ton of Essence. Plus, equipping a Squid Game exclusive Operator provides additional gifts as a reward. But when the Red Light phase hits, things start to go south. Standing still isn’t the most survivable tactic in a game where you always have to be on the move constantly. However, I have found out that if you don’t walk while shooting your gun, it doesn’t seem to count as moving. That means you can look around and use your weapon but not walk or run.

Dead Light increases the challenge by making zombies more dangerous than they already are. Their eyes will glow purple, boosting their attack damage and movement speed. I died first thing when this round triggered, as it almost feels like a Round 10 difficulty, even in the starting rounds. That said, I suggest any newcomers get familiar with BO6 Zombies before diving into Dead Light, Green Light, given that it’s a more advanced mode.

How to play Red Light, Green Light in Squid Game: Warzone

Jump into Squid Game: Warzone to begin an objective-based mode in Urzikstan. The Red Light, Green Light game triggers throughout the match, following the same formula as Black Ops 6 Multiplayer. You’ll see Young-hee pop up on the screen’s right side, where you can move during Green Light or stand still in Red Light to avoid elimination.

Like Zombies, it can be difficult to stand still in a highly competitive match. To help with this, find coverage whenever Young-hee’s dialogue sounds off and hope that no one else sees you. Then, complete as many game objectives as possible to remain at the top of the leaderboards. Keep in mind that underperforming teams who don’t knock out the tasks will be eliminated, reducing your XP intake for the match’s conclusion.
