Verdansk’s return to Call of Duty Warzone reportedly coming in Season 3

Last summer while fully revealing Black Ops 6 and discussing the changes it would bring to Call of Duty Warzone, Activision confirmed exactly what the battle royale’s community has been waiting for – Verdansk is coming back. The game’s original map holds a special place in players’ hearts, and now a new claim from a credible Call of Duty leaker says that Verdansk’s return is set for Season 3.

While still attracting huge numbers of players, Warzone feels like it’s lost a lot of the magic it once had over the last couple of years. The upgrades the battle royale received when it became ‘Warzone 2’ didn’t land well, and very few of the game’s new maps from this era have garnered the same levels of admiration as Verdansk, its original battlefield. I know I’m not alone in feeling this, but a big reason why it’s so beloved is because it was a refuge for separated friends and family during the COVID lockdown era. Sure, it played well too, but it’s a large part of why there’s so much Verdansk nostalgia.

So when Activision announced that Verdansk is coming back to Warzone, there was almost universal excitement. At the time, a “Spring 2025” window was given. Lining up with this window, leaker ‘GhostOfHope’ now claims that Verdansk’s long-awaited return to Warzone will arrive in Season 3.

While there’s currently no official date as to when Season 3 will arrive, we do know that the Warzone and Black Ops 6 Season 2 release date will most likely arrive on January 28, which is when the current season’s battle pass is set to expire according to an in-game countdown. That means the total duration of Season 1 will be just over two months, which is typical for Call of Duty seasons (there tends to be six of them wedged into each game’s yearly cycle). Using that as a guide, we can expect Warzone Season 3 and the return of Verdansk to drop some time between the very end of March to the middle of April.

For an additional reference point, Season 3 of last year’s game, Modern Warfare 3, began on April 3.

I don’t think anyone expects Verdansk to come back exactly how it released back in the day – the current iteration of Warzone has lots of different features, gear, and mechanics that will force the map to undergo some tweaks. However, it does sound like some POIs will be changed or new ones added, according to an additional post from TheGhostOfHope that claims “Fringe is on Verdansk.” For the unaware, Fringe is a brilliant multiplayer map from Black Ops 3 that depicts a small farm town. Its layout and its theme could definitely work as a location in Verdansk, either as an expansion or replacement of an existing POI like Farmland or as an entirely new drop point in one of the less dense areas of the map.

Of course, all of this is rumor at this stage and the official line from Activision remains that Verdansk will be out some time in the Spring. If you’re an OG player waiting for it to arrive so that you can hop back into Warzone, there are plenty of other brilliant free PC games and multiplayer games out there to help you pass the time.
