Tides of Annihilation Proving Popular After State of Play Reveal

While Sony may have expected its first-party announcements to be the biggest hitters of last week's State of Play event, it's the new Chinese RPG Tides of Annihilation that's turned out to be the PS5 title attracting the most attention. A debut effort from Eclipse Glow Games, the intriguing setting combined with some impressive gameplay has helped the title to a place on many wishlists following the livestream.

Its instant popularity was enough to see it prove the most picked choice in a Push Square Poll we conducted over the weekend, earning more votes than any other PS5 game part of the show. Of over 4,600 votes, it garnered more than 13 per cent of the overall share, which translates into 621 votes — at the time of writing. Its closest competitor is Saros with 533 votes, meaning Tides of Annihilation managed to beat out a PlayStation Studios title in its own backyard.

The game is also doing bits on YouTube, where the reveal trailer on the PlayStation YouTube channel is just shy of one million views, whereas the 11-minute gameplay clip has more than 1.2 million views across its PlayStation upload and another from IGN.

Tides of Annihilation takes place in the ruins of the English capital city, London. The setup is: "Taking on the role of Gwendolyn, humanity’s lone survivor, players embark on a legendary quest through London’s iconic environs to unravel a mystery that will determine the fate of reality itself. Battling alongside summonable spectral knights, players will encounter hordes of enemies, unforgettable bosses, and vertical levels in the form of gigantic knights roaming the landscape."
