The Wrapp - Cheesy Books, Diner Dashing, and Jumping Kings

Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.

This is a chance for you to see what the various members of the Pocket Gamer team are planning to play over this weekend and will, hopefully, give you an idea of some of the weird and wonderful things we get up to when we’re not keeping you up to speed with the latest news and tips. Heck, you might even find a new game to play.

I’m still churning away at Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, and, well, it’s a numbers game, isn’t it? I managed to get the Wonder Pick Chimchar and the Skarmory, meaning I’m still up to speed with Promo Pack A, and I’m now at 132/155 of the Space-Time Smackdown Pack — a gain of 15.

After a little bit of train travel earlier in the week, I rediscovered my love for Dear Reader, in which you solve simple word-related puzzles to fix excerpts from books. I finished A Doll’s House (which I had to read for English Lit in College) and have started working through one of the rare books: Cheese and its Economical Uses in the Diet. The new rare books system (I’m unsure how new it is) is welcome and added a bunch of quality (and weird) stuff, so I’m sure that’ll keep me busy for a while.

Will’s chatting on the podcast got me excited for Dark & Darker Mobile, which I played a little bit of on PC, so I’m hoping I can find a way to squeeze into that. We’ll see.

Will be whiling away the weekend at an event out of town, where she’s been invited as a guest author to a cosy open mic (aka book club aka lovely bookworms geeking out over universes within pages) at an indie bookshop to promote her latest novel

This weekend I would like to try out this new game called Delicious: The First Course. It’s supposed to be just like the old Diner Dash games - you go take orders from customers, prep the food, serve it, cash in, and clean up the tables. I can’t wait to give it a try, since Diner Dash has been one of my fondest memories.

Talking about games I used to love growing up, I actually found Insaniquarium Deluxe on Steam, at about $5, and I can’t think of anything else other than playing it!

I have spent a lot of time this past week trying to grind out all the Astrite I could in Wuthering Waves to get Roccias’ weapon, only to sadly fall short. I am now in mourning and will be putting that aside for this weekend, although that does free up my time for other games! We are in the build-up to TennoCon once again, and I am feeling the desire to return to Warframe. Very excited to find out who the next Protoframes will be of. Hopefully, Ash will be one!

Apparently, I like to suffer when it comes to gaming on any platform because I willingly signed on to play Jump King. This is a challenging rage game that I've picked away at on Steam, but I still have no idea how far away I am from the top of whatever-this-place-is-ville. Now, the devs have decided to bring the pain to my casual life by making a mobile port. So, looks like I'll be seeing if this version is more or less damaging to my state of mind… If it is, I honestly don't know if I'd call that a success.

It's been chill playing Wizardry Variants Daphne, but the "horror" elements kind of faded away. The monster designs are cool, and it's plain to see that a lot of effort went into the visuals. Of course, it doesn't take many gacha pulls to see that it walks very definitively through waifu territory.

This weekend in Pokemon there is a raid day; Hoopa! It’s a little weird as last year, there were Elite raids for both Hoopa and Enamourous, which are the two Pokemon currently out. Despite this, neither of these Pokemon are shiny!

Even without a shiny, I have baked a bunch of raspberry palmiers and dipped many strawberries to create little Valentine’s Day gift boxes for our local community.

I'm playing a few things for review and preview purposes over the weekend, but I can't speak about either yet because embargoes are a thing. So, there's not much to report on the mobile front. All I will say is that one in particular I'm very much looking forward to settling down with and have been for a while. More on that soon!

Elsewhere, I'm still battling my way through God of War Ragnarok. My thoughts haven't changed too much. The gameplay is excellent fun, giving a dose of Soulslike combat alongside a nod towards the spectacle fighters of years gone by. However, the story just isn't as compelling this time around. The numerous circular conversations all of the characters have certainly don't help.
