Sylens Will Be A Part Of Lego Horizon Adventures, But It Won’t Be Lance Reddick’s Voice Behind The Character

Lance Reddick was a world renowned and beloved actor, who many knew from his films, but if you played games, you knew him mainly as Commander Zavala. The iconic Destiny character’s strength began and ended with Reddick’s portrayal and excellent voice acting work.

Reddick’s connection to Destiny players and fans only added to the tragedy when it was announced in March 2023 that Reddick had passed away.

By August 2023, in part due to the nature of live service games, Bungie had revealed that Keith David would take Reddick’s place as Zavala. But that still left a big hole in a different franchise – Guerilla Games popular Horizon series, in which Reddick had voiced Sylens, a key character to Aloy’s story.

Guerilla, has yet to appoint a new voice for Sylens, a character who all things pointed to being very key to the continuing story of the franchise. However it seems like we’ll know who the voice is soon, thanks to the little off-shoot game that is Lego Horizon Adventures.

In an interview with IGN ahead of the new Lego game’s release which is due out in the middle of November, developer Guerilla Games confirmed that Sylens will appear in Lego Horizon Adventures, and that it won’t be Reddick’s voice behind the character.

“Lance Reddick tragically passed away in 2023, and he is deeply missed within Guerrilla and our community,” the studio said in its statement.

“He wonderfully portrayed the essential character of Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West. The character of Sylens does appear in LEGO Horizon Adventures, and we will introduce the new actor at a later date. Hearing the voices of other original actors including Ashly Burch as Aloy, JB Blanc as Rost, John Macmillan as Varl and John Hopkins as Erend has really brought back the tone of comradery found in the original game.”

It could be that Keith David is stepping in again to carry Reddick’s torch, though it could be that Guerilla wanted to go in a different direction. It is curious though that Reddick isn’t in Lego Horizon Adventures.

Video games are multi-year projects, and when Reddick passed, not two months later Guerilla said “we’re really just sort of focused on absorbing this tragedy,” and that they had “not thought about it,” with “it” being the question of who’ll take Reddick’s place.

So Reddick must’ve been in the middle of, or was just about to, record his lines for Sylens for Lego Horizon Adventures. As it was with David and Bungie, it’ll be interesting to see who Guerilla goes with.
