Things are going 2D, quite literally

Strinova is a new 5v5 anime shooter where you lock, load and, for some reason, turn into paper
  • Strinova is a new 5v5 anime shooter that's set to hit mobile sometime in future
  • In this strange world, you can transform from a 3D to 2D form to enhance your combat prowess
  • It'll debut with multiple modes and more

When it comes to translating into 3D, anime has had a difficult time of it. You can probably remember back when Dragon Ball FighterZ debuted and was praised for its cel-shaded graphics, especially compared to earlier attempts that never quite captured the authentic feel of the original. Fortunately, in Strinova, you don't need to worry because both 2D and 3D are yours to command.

While the claim that this is the first 5v5 anime shooter may be a bit dubious, I've certainly not seen a game where transforming from a 2D to 3D character has been a core mechanic. After humanity migrates to a strange world called Strinova, people have unlocked the ability to Stringify, which lets them - you guessed it - turn 2D.

Naturally, this new power means people are apt to start fighting over it, and in Strinova you'll be able to duke it out across multiple modes while taking control of different heroes with various ways of wielding the ability to Stringify.

Coming sometime

Strinova is set to hit PC, however, according to the developers, we can definitely expect the game to hit both iOS and Android sometime in the near future. And while I did expect to simply see a translation of something like Splatoon to mobile, it does seem that the characters in Strinova have plenty of innovative ways of wielding their abilities beyond just blending into the environment.
