Starbound Has Suddenly Become Available On Xbox This Week

Back in August, we saw signs that the PC mega-hit Starbound was almost ready for a release on Xbox, but we didn't realise it'd be a shadow drop - the game quietly hit the Xbox Store earlier this week for Xbox One, Series X and Series S.

This console version is available for £11.99 / $14.99, and if you haven't come across it before, it's basically a space sandbox game where you create your own story. Here's a bit more about what you can expect from it:

"In Starbound, you create your own story - there’s no wrong way to play! You may choose to save the universe from the forces that destroyed your home, uncovering greater galactic mysteries in the process, or you may wish to forego a heroic journey entirely in favor of colonizing uncharted planets.

Settle down and farm the land, become an intergalactic landlord, hop from planet to planet collecting rare creatures, or delve into dangerous dungeons and lay claim to extraordinary treasures."

It's a bit too early to get a verdict on the Xbox version of Starbound, but the Steam version has a "Very Positive" overall score based on over 65,000 ratings, and it's often compared to the likes of Terraria, Space Engineers and Minecraft.

Something to keep in mind though is that if you're playing on Xbox One or Xbox One S, you're only able to host up to two players in a party - whereas all the other Xbox consoles can host up to four. Not a huge surprise, but worth knowing!

Another thing to be aware of is that Starbound is already playable with PC Game Pass, so if you have access to a suitable device to play it on, you don't necessarily need to buy it for console. We might end up double-dipping though...
