At five seasons, Star Trek: Lower Decks is among the longest-lived Star Trek series in franchise history. And that’s not bad at all for an animated show, let alone one that has gone where no Trek had gone before: Full bore comedy. And while we’re sorry to see Lower Decks go, at least a new trailer for the final season makes it clear that we’ll be laughing it out the door.
The trailer features 20-sided boulders, bird and axolotl aliens, what looks like a tuba that shoots lasers, and a sequence dunking on Star Trek: Enterprise’s notoriously horny “decontamination gel.” Not to mention the stinger, which I am really hoping is a callback to “Deadlock,” the episode in which Harry Kim dies and gets replaced by an identical duplicate Harry Kim and then nobody talks about how weird that is ever again in the entire run of Star Trek: Voyager.
Star Trek: Lower Decks’ fifth and final season premieres on Paramount Plus on Oct. 24.
