Silent Hill 2’s remake launched globally today after having been available in early access for Deluxe Edition owners over the weekend, and following receiving widespread critical acclaim, the survival horror title also seems to be attracting audiences in decent numbers.

As per SteamDB, at the time of writing, Silent Hill 2 has seen a peak of 23,676 players on Steam. Those aren’t terrible numbers, especially for what is the first instalment in a long time for a long-dormant franchise that has traditionally never been much of a mass seller, though compared to how other horror remakes have performed in recent years, its numbers do fall a little bit short.

Resident Evil, of course, will be the series that most will look to for comparison. Resident Evil 2 saw a concurrent peak of over 74,000 players, while Resident Evil 3 stands at over 60,000 players, and Resident Evil 4 at over 168,000 players. Meanwhile, if you want to look at a non-Resident Evil release, there’s also the Dead Space remake, which had a peak of over 30,000 concurrent players.

In our review of Silent Hill 2, we awarded it a score of 10/10, saying, “Bloober Team and Konami’s remake of the 2001 classic is easily one of the best survival horror games out there. The new Silent Hill 2 easily stands amongst the likes of Resident Evil 2 and Dead Space, making it a must-play game for veterans and newcomers alike.” Read the full review through here.

Silent Hill 2 is available on PS5 and PC.
