■ Combat
Weapon-Specific Techniques
Some techniques are “weapon-specific” and can only be used with certain weapons. There are two types of weaponspecific techniques: those that can be used simply by equipping the weapon, and those that can be used by glimmering while using the weapon. Weapon-specific techniques can be used by anyone equipped with the weapon.
“Dayblade” and “Moonlight,” the two weapons bestowed on the final male and female Emperors, respectively, each have powerful weapon-specific techniques.
—Holy Light
Dayblade’s weapon-specific tech. A technique that incinerates the enemy with the holy light that the weapon possesses. Effective only against undead enemies.
—Lunar Blade
Moonlight’s weapon-specific tech. This technique sends sword blows at all enemies with the power of the moon that the weapon possesses.
—Final Strike
Bring the full might of your weapon to bear upon your enemy, converting its integrity into a mystical blow. The equipped weapon breaks afterwards.
—Dancing Sword
A greatsword weapon-specific tech. Countless sword phantoms dance wildly and slash at the enemy.
—Destruction
An axe weapon-specific tech. Creates a gravitational field and crushes the target and surrounding enemies.
—Starlight Arrows
Summon a starshower at the end of your turn to deal damage to all foes on the field. If the caster is downed before the effect is triggered, allies also take damage from the starfall.
Ley Lines
The battlefield can occasionally have ley lines, a field effect which will be attuned to one of the six elements (fire, water, earth, air, light, and dark). Both allies and enemies benefit from increased power and HP recovery from techniques with the same element as the ley lines. When a ley line is present, it is indicated by an icon in the upper right corner of the screen. The ley line can be disrupted by using techniques of the opposite element.
—Pyro / Hydro, Aero / Terro, and Cosmo / Umbro are opposite ley line element types, respectively. Characters that are attuned to the ley line recover a certain amount of HP at the end of each turn.
—Ley lines can be temporarily dispelled by using a tech or spell of the opposing element.
New Synthesized Spells
This title features not only new regular spells, such as “Water Blast” and “Pulverize,” but also a new mechanic: Synthesized Spells, which are powerful spells combining two different spell schools (elements).
—Rain of Death
A water and dark (UmbroHydrology) synthesized spell. It rains poison on all enemies. It has a chance of inflicting Doom.
—Landslide
An earth and dark (UmbroTerrology) synthesized spell. It raises the surrounding earth and sand and strikes with a blast of sand and gravel. Targets all enemies, lowering their physical defense.
—Flash Fire
A fire and light (CosmoPyrology) synthesized spell. It incinerates all enemies in an instant. Stuns the enemy at a certain probability and deals critical damage to the undead.
—Restoration
A wind and light (CosmoAerology) synthesized spell. Life-giving light pours down and heals the body. Restores HP and cures status ailments but does not revive fallen allies.
