Random: PS2's Iconic Operating System Becomes Survival Horror in Upcoming Indie

For everyone reading this article, PS2’s operating system will be a source of nostalgia. It also could be quite a frightening place – especially when your favourite game failed to boot. Usually a quick breath over the back of the DVD and a rub on the shirt could fix even the most scratched copy of GTA: San Andreas, but it was always a stomach churning moment waiting for the logo to appear and the blurp to confirm your game was going to boot.

This upcoming indie survival horror Please Insert Disc digs into that, as it sees you “navigating the underbelly of your game console to restore its functionality [and] waking something in the process”. The inspiration is obvious here, as the operating system in question is an exact replica of the PS2’s.

Unfortunately, it looks like this game is currently only announced for PC, although given the obvious PlayStation interest we hope Sony can convince the developer to bring it to the PS5. It seems like a really interesting idea for a game, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.
