The Two-Sided Pokemon is the first in Go that can change form mid-battle
- Part one of Pokemon Go's Halloween event will introduce Morpeko
- It will also add Gastly to the growing Dynamax roster
- There will be a free Timed Research to complete alongside two ticketed quests
Halloween has always been one of the bigger parts of Pokemon Go's calendar, and this year is no different. Today, Niantic has unveiled the details for the first part of its annual spooky season, which sees the arrival of a new Pokemon, a ghostly addition to the Dynamax roster and other goodies to sweeten the deal. Part one gets underway on October 22nd, running until October 28th.
The new Pokemon arriving in Go isn't a Ghost-type as you might expect, although it can look scary, sometimes, depending on whether it's in Hangry or Full Belly mode. That's right, fans of Pokemon have probably worked out that the latest arrival is Morpeko. Or you knew that by looking at the headline for the article, thus rendering this paragraph somewhat pointless...
Anyway, Morpkeo's debut also marks the first time a Pokemon can change form mid-battle in Go. Whenever you use the Charged Attack Aura wheel, your little hamster thing will switch between Full Belly and Hangry mode. Doing so changes Aura Wheel's type from Electric to Dark. However, it's important to note that, for now, this mode switching is only available in Trainer and Team Go Rocket battles.
Aside from spotting them in the wild, you can also encounter Morpeko through the free Timed Research that coincides with its arrival. In it, you will also have the opportunity to catch a Spiritomb – a much better and cooler Pokemon.
While that's free, there are two ticketed events priced at $2 and $5, respectively. The $2 option sees you encountering old and new Halloween-themed costumed Pokemon, alongside snagging a few premium items. Meanwhile, if you go for the $5 ticket, you'll enjoy some Candy bonuses and net yourself a Morpeko onesie, with a choice between Hangry and Full Belly mode versions.
Elsewhere, Gastly will start appearing in Dynamax Raids, giving you a chance to add a Ghost-type to your big battle roster. And if that doesn't interest you, maybe the promise of a Shiny Umbreon from participating in Raids will?
