Pokémon Go Tour: Unova to go ahead in Los Angeles with refund offered to those unable to attend

• Taking place in Los Angeles, whether or not it would continue due to the wildfires was still unclear
• However, Niantic will also offer refunds to those unable to attend due to said circumstances

While Los Angeles was devastated by wildfires earlier this year, after many weeks of blazes it appears that things have finally come under control. And in California's most famous city, many of the major events that had been up in the air are set to move ahead, the most pertinent here being the upcoming Pokémon Go Tour: Unova event.

Niantic has confirmed that the event will continue to go ahead at the Rose Bowl Stadium, Brookside Golf Course and in the wider Los Angeles area and Orange County. However, in recognition of the difficulties faced by many in the aftermath of these events, they are also offering refunds to ticket holders that can be requested via in-app support up until February 23rd.

Niantic has also promised to share more about what they hope to do to support the local community and encouraged all players to follow necessary health guidelines during the event.

Beyond gaming

The Los Angeles wildfires truly shocked the world, taking place so close to the seemingly untouchable home of Hollywood glitz and glamour. But whatever you think, Niantic choosing to move ahead with the event indicates that they hope to help reestablish a sense of normality for those of you attending the event.

I'm hopeful that their statement about offering further community support will bear fruit, as the Los Angeles wildfires have already encouraged an outpouring of support from many in the wider media industry.
