Original Director 'Very Happy' with Bloober Team's Work Remaking Silent Hill 2 on PS5, PC

Original Silent Hill 2 director Masashi Tsuboyama has praised the work done by developer Bloober Team to modernise the horror classic, which was released to rave reviews (and some tragically hurt feelings). Tsuboyama excitedly proclaimed that he looks forward to playing "the even more immersive remake of Silent Hill 2".

Spotted by VGC, the director of the original survival horror classic reflected on how technology has allowed Bloober to do things Tsuboyama once only thought possible in his restless dreams: "Games and technology are constantly evolving, resulting in significant differences in constraints and levels of expression... The thing to note is the change in camera (perspective). The change in playable camera has a significant impact on many aspects, combat, level design, art creation, etc. While the impact on the story may be relatively small, it brings a big change to the playfeel of the game."

Expounding, Tsuboyama says that the camera in the original game always annoyed him, and the shift to a modern third-person perspective only enhances the game: "To be honest, I’m not satisfied with the playable camera from 23 years ago. Depth and angle were limited by the processing load. It was a continuous process of hard work that was not rewarded. But that was the limit. The over-the-shoulder view definitely adds to the sense of realism."
