Vampire Survivors DLC Tides of the Foscari Is Taking Monster Hunters Back To School

1 year ago 177

The next DLC for Vampire Survivors, the auto-slaughtering game where you become a bullet hell of blades and garlic, is taking players back to school. Tides of the Foscari is set inside of a magical academy and adds eight new characters, 13 weapons, a new stage to explore, and most importantly, new character animations for two of the selectable heroes.

"Yes, after countless updates, millions of players, and almost 180,000 overwhelmingly positive reviews, TWO(!) of Vampire Survivors heroes can finally do more than strut from side to side. Don't say we never treat you," developer Poncle said in a press release.

Now Playing: GameSpot's Top 10 Games of 2022

Tides of the Foscari will launch on April 13 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and mobile, and is the second major expansion after December 2022's Legacy of the Moonspell. At this week's BAFTAs, Vampire Survivors won the award for Best Game, beating out other hit games such as Cult of the Lamb, Stray, and Elden Ring, and it also won the award for Best Game Design.

The sleeper hit of 2022, Vampire Survivors was one of GameSpot's top 10 best games of 2022. A sequel is unlikely for now, as studio head Luca Galante says that the current DLC plan has been successful so far.

"With the way Vampire Survivors is designed, we can deliver both new content and new game mechanics on the existing game, so why make a sequel?" Galante said. "I think that if we make a sequel or a spiritual successor, then we should offer something radically new."
