After back-to-back defeats midway through the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Western Europe (WEU) 2023 Tour 2: Division I, Tundra Esports has bounced back to defeat Lima Major champions Gaimin Gladiators 2-0. As for the drafts, Tundra brought high tempo lineups that were capable of dominating maps and putting pressure on the enemies. This was then combined with excellent execution. Oliver "skiter" Lepko, who has had some rough games recently, delivered two stellar performances on Night Stalker and Anti-Mage. On the other hand, for Gaimin, it was perhaps the only series in recent times in which it was outplayed to a large extent.

Tundra Esports vs Gaimin Gladiators: Match recap and highlights

Recap

In game 1, Tundra chose a three-melee core lineup - mid Pangolier, offlane Dark Seer, and carry Night Stalker. Tundra went after Ace's Beastmaster with a powerful safelane combo of Night Stalker and Undying and killed him four times in the first 12 minutes. Tundra then used its high-tempo roster to sustain the aggression, locate kills on the go, and retain a strong lead against Gaimin. Dyrachyo was farming very well on Lifestealer for Gaimin and kept his team in the game for a long time, but Tundra did not drop the ball and triumphed in 45 minutes.

In game 2, Gaimin's final selection was Visage for Ace, which was countered by Tundra's Anti-Mage pick for skiter, a hero who also looked excellent overall. As expected from the draft, Ace felt strained once again in the offlane, helping skiter get the dream start. Tundra drew or was ahead in other lanes as well. As soon as the squad received its first item timings, it began to put pressure on Gaimin, whose draft was not suited to playing from behind. Tundra won in 28 minutes thanks to an outstanding team performance headed by skiter.

Highlights

Here are some highlights of the series.

Clearly, Tundra was not as seamless and cohesive as it was on Tour 1, showing a lackluster performance overall. But the display of precise drafting and strategic map navigation in Tour 2 has suggested that this team's ruthless nature is resurfacing, positioning it as a formidable contender for future opponents.

Although Gaimin lost today’s series, it remains strongly in contention for a slot at the Berlin Major. Tundra has also established itself as a strong contender, and both teams will likely be heading to Germany in April for the event.

Both teams have one series remaining in DPC WEU 2023 Tour 2: Division I. On 31st March, Gaimin will face Nigma Galaxy, while Tundra plays against Monaspa.
