South Korean video game holding Krafton, known for its intellectual properties like PUBG Mobile, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), and New State Mobile, partnered with Indian esports organization S8UL Esports for the launch of its latest casual PVP [player vs player] strategy game Road to Valor: Empires. Krafton’s Road to Valor: Empires is a real-time PVP strategy game where you can compete with players around the globe while commanding mythical gods, beasts, and heroes.

Notably, this is Krafton’s first casual game for the Indian market and has been developed in partnership with Dreamotion. Road to Valor: Empires features Hindi as a language option and also boasts unique curated features to provide an authentic strategy experience in a casual format for the Indian player base.

Many figures in the Indian Gaming Community (IGC) have already expressed their beliefs that the game has the capability of becoming an esports title if given the right opportunity.

With that being said, let us understand one of the major parts of the core gameplay - Guardians and Battle Units.

Understanding Road to Valor: Empires basics

Guardians and Battle Units make the crux of the game. Here’s everything you need to know about these units before you begin your Road to Valor: Empire journey.

Guardian and Battle Units

In the game, players command hero units called "Guardians" alongside an army of their choice.  The Guardian will lead the eight-unit army in the battle and you will have the option to choose your Guardian from a list of 12 heroes. For your army, you will choose eight units and you have the choice of over 60 units across four factions or civilizations. The four civilizations in the game are Roman, Persian, Norman, and Japanese and each one of these civilizations offers three Guardians to choose from. However, players will only unlock these units as they progress in the game. At the start, you will be able to play Cyrus and Beowulf.

Guardians have one passive skill that applies to all the units in your eight-unit army and two active skills. You can use these active skills in battle to gain advantages over your opponent. But note that you need to wait for the “Skill meter” to charge before using these skills.

The Guardians and their active skills in Road to Valor: Empires are as follows:

Roman Faction:

  • Caesar - Catapult Launch, Heroic Presence

  • Hades - Definite Strike, Hellfire

  • Athena - Goddess’s Protection, Incarnation

Persian Faction:

  • Cyrus - Reassemble, Royal War Elephants

  • Angra - Command: Death, Command: Decadence

  • Spenta - Holy Blessing, Reincarnation

Norman Faction:

  • Beowulf - Viking Mead, Hero’s Saga

  • Loki - Imitate, Memory Regeneration

  • Odin - Gungnir, Ragnarok

Japanese Faction:

  • Hanzo - Phantom Clone, The Infiltrator

  • Susanoo - Kusanagi no Tsurugi, Breath of Orochi

  • Amaterasu - Wind of Abundance, Dance of the Sun

Coming to army units and combat systems in the game, the Roman, Persian, Norman, and Japanese factions include a unique type of army, mythical creatures, buildings, siege units, attacks, and more. You can choose your favorite units and match them with a Guardian of your choice to create the strategy deck or your loadouts.

Once you choose a particular unit, you can check out the strengths and weaknesses and the attacks that the unit offers before you select your eight-unit army.
