How to Use Hydraulics in GTA 5

Hydraulics will make your car feel alive. They are expensive to get but perfect to show off. In GTA 5, hydraulics can be clunky to use and remind of painful San Andreas lowrider missions. But we promise you that it’s not that bad.

How to Use Hydraulics in GTA 5

If you have hydraulics already installed in your car, controlling them is quite easy on both the keyboard and controller (you can also use a steering wheel if you want). Although it does require a little bit of time to master it.

To use hydraulics in GTA 5:

  • PC: Hold “X” to lower hydraulics. While holding “X” start pressing the “Shift”, “Ctrl”, “A”, and “D” keys to bounce to a certain side. To bounce with the whole car hold and release “X”.
  • Xbox: Hold “A” to lower hydraulics. While holding “A” start swinging the analog stick to the side you want to bounce with. To bounce with the whole car hold and release “A”.
  • PlayStation: Hold “X” to lower hydraulics. While holding “X” start swinging the analog stick to the side you want to bounce with. To bounce with the whole car hold and release “X”.

The timing is everything when it comes to bouncing with hydraulics. Don’t just spam the keys, try to press them with a 0.5 second interval, to begin with. Sometimes the car will jump high, sometimes it won’t. Keep practicing and you will learn hydraulics in no time.

How to Get Hydraulics in GTA 5

Not all cars can have hydraulics installed, only the Lowrider type. If you don’t yet have a suitable vehicle here’s something that will help you. Go to the “Benny’s Original Motor Works” website and buy one of the following cars:

  • Buccaneer: $29,000 (+$390,000)
  • Chino: $225,000 (+$180,000)
  • Faction: $36,000 (+$335,000 or +$695,000 for Donk edition)
  • Glendale: $200,000 (+$520,000)
  • Hermes: $535,000
  • Manana: XXX (+$925,000)
  • Minivan: $30,000 (+$330,000)
  • Moonbeam: $32,500 (+$370,000)
  • Peyote: $38,000 (+$620,000)
  • Primo: $9,000 (+$400,000)
  • Sabre Turbo: $15,000 (+$490,000)
  • Slamtruck: $1,310,000
  • Slamvan: $49,500 (+$415,000)
  • Technical: $1,263,500 (+$142,500)
  • Virgo: $195,000 (+$240,000)
  • Voodoo: $5,000 (+$420,000)
  • Yosemite: $485,000

Keep in mind that some of them will require custom Benny’s upgrade to be ready for hydraulics. The number in brackets is the price of that upgrade that you will have to get. The cheapest cars to buy as of now are Minivan, Moonbeam, and Faction.

After that head on the car to Benny’s shop, upgrade to the custom variant if needed, and buy hydraulics. The most basic set of hydraulics costs $75,000.

How to Change Hydraulics Controls

The default controls are quite comfortable, but if you want to change or adjust your hydraulics controls for whatever reason, you can easily do that in the game’s settings.

To change hydraulics keybinds on PC:

  1. Open the Pause menu
  2. Head to “Settings” and “Cars/Bikes/Boats”
  3. Change keybinds for: “Steer Left”, “Steer Right”, “Lean/Tilt Forward”, and “Lean/Tilt Backward”

Some of the keybinds are connected to steering, we wouldn’t recommend changing them. However, leaning keybinds are the ones you can try and change, however, that will affect the controls of other vehicles such as helicopters.

Unfortunately, you can’t change or remap buttons on a controller. So if you are playing on Xbox or PlayStation you are stuck with the default layout.
