EA Announced It Will Lay Off 6% Of Its Total Workforce As Part Of A Restructuring Plan

Layoffs continue to hit the industry, once again coming from EA, as the company’s chief executive officer Andrew Wilson reveals the FIFA publisher will be cutting 6% of its total workforce as part of a restructuring plan.

Despite this layoff, which will result in hundreds of jobs lost, Wilson remains that the company is doing this “from a position of strength,” as it puts more efforts into its real-estate endeavours and growth efforts.

We’ve already seen part of this 6% cut begin, with layoffs hitting Apex Legends QA staff, and there are still more to come, as according to a report from GamesIndustry.Biz it’ll continue cuts until early into its next fiscal year.

That new fiscal year begins April 1, 2023, which means that early into this new fiscal year could mean the layoffs will end next week, or next month. Hopefully it’s sooner than later.

Meanwhile, Apex Legends has been at an all-time high in player count in its history, Battlefield 2042 is making a slow but steady comeback, and EA’s annual sports titles continue to perform well on the sales charts.

Not to mention that its preparing for the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which’ll be coming towards the end of April.

EA seems to be firing on all cylinders currently, so while layoffs may be an unfortunate fact of the industry, it’s never good to see, and even more confusing to see when a company is seemingly doing better than it ever has.
