Activision has revealed new details about the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign.

Earlier this week it published a blog detailing the Black Ops story so far, covering the major story beats and characters featured in the series, starting in the early 1960s through the late 1980s.

And in a ‘Campaign Intel Drop’ video (viewable below) released on Wednesday, developer Raven Software sets the stage for Black Ops 6’s single-player story, which is set in 1991 during the Gulf War.

“The campaign is definitely like playing through a summer blockbuster that’s accessible to anyone coming in,” said lead narrative designer Murray Kraft.

In typical Call of Duty fashion, it will be a globe-trotting adventure, visiting the likes of Kuwait, Iraq, Washington DC and the Soviet Union.

“The sheer variety in the game is pretty spectacular in that there’s a lot of space to explore. The player can do it in any way they want, we’re allowing different strategies in these spaces,” Kraft claimed.

“You’ll find that your buddy played it differently and they got a whole different result, or that something happened to them that didn’t happen to you, so there’s a lot of replayability,” added senior environment artist Tyler Anlauf.

The video also shows off the Safehouse, which acts as a base of operations between missions. Piles of cash scattered throughout the campaign can be used to upgrade the Safehouse and unlock new abilities and equipment, and players can customise their Operator at upgrade stations.

Completing missions and upgrading the Safehouse will also unlock rewards for use across multiplayer and Zombies, including skins, weapon blueprints and finishing moves.

Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC. It will also be the first Call of Duty title to launch on Game Pass on day one.
