Neon Zone is an arcade-inspired, light-drenched race through a digital maze
  • Neon Zone sees players navigate a high-speed digital maze
  • Inspired by classic arcade games, it comes complete with a synthwave soundtrack
  • Experience 15 free-to-play mazes and 35 premium levels

When it comes to the arcade experience - despite older games being notoriously monochrome - for whatever reason neon has become the retro colour of the decade. Not that we're complaining, as the upcoming iOS-exclusive action puzzler Neon Zone isn't just a metaphorical pretty face.

In Neon Zone, you'll blast your way through 2D mazes playing as the suitably sci-fi-named Velosphere. Battle the clock as you race through 15 free levels and 35 additional premium mazes to complete the challenge. All of this is complete with an original synthwave soundtrack to complete the retro appeal.

Oh, wait, did we make it sound easy? Well, here's the twist, you don't actually get to see ahead of you. Yes, Neon Zone isn't just a puzzler, it's a memory game too. You get three seconds to memorise a maze, and from there, you have to pick your route carefully in order to find the exit before time runs out.

A digital frontier

While Neon Zone seems simple on the surface, the additional memory puzzling aspect pushes this into being something truly intriguing, I feel. However, I wouldn't be surprised if some find the neon-drenched aesthetic and music a little too cheesy and retro for its own good. Neon Zone is set to launch on November 1st, so if you do want to give it a chance you don't have long to wait.
