Monolith Soft Explains What Scenario Planners Do for Games

3 weeks ago 50

Monolith Soft—best known for developing series like Xenosaga and Xenoblade—will slowly introduce the different jobs there are in the video game development industry, starting from scenario planners. This is a job that’s far more extensive than a normal writer.

A scenario planner doesn’t only work on the text of the story. They’re the one who plans out and oversees just what makes the game interesting. Not only are they someone who’s an expert on stories, but they’re also in charge of deciding what kind of experience the game will give the player. This includes deciding on basic settings and play feel. Though it’s a very extensive job that requires you to wear many hats, you are able to work on the overall framework of the game.

If we look at Monolith Soft itself, Tetsuya Takahashi, one of the co-founders of the company, worked on the scenario for multiple games, including the Xenoblade series and Xenogears. For Xenoblade, he also worked as the executive director and voice director, though a normal scenario planner likely will not need to fill in those extra roles as well.

More information on other jobs that exist at Monolith Soft will appear via its official X (formerly Twitter) page. It didn’t state what the upload schedule would be like, so there’s no telling when the next post will appear.
