After teaming up with Studio Gobo for a project, Guerilla Game’s Horizon games expansion project is coming soon. The game LEGO Horizon Adventures was announced on September 24, 2024, with a release date slated for later this year. As a spinoff from the Horizon Zero Dawn, the game promises much, especially with the involvement of the LEGO Group in the game’s design. Fans can only build anticipation as they marvel at the design and color depicted in the game’s pre-order trailer. For now, here is everything we know about LEGO Horizon Adventures.
What is LEGO Horizon Adventures?
LEGO Horizon Adventures is a new anticipated action-adventure title set to launch just in time for the Christmas holiday in 2024. It’s a work of art from Guerilla Games and Studio Gobo, with Sony Interactive Entertainment as the publisher. The title will join the Horizon Games series as a spin-off of the 2017 RPG Horizon Zero Dawn. The development team, including the publisher, is pretty much the same as Horizon Zero Dawn. However, with LEGO Horizon Adventures, Studio Gobo is added to the dev team, plus the game happens in a LEGO-themed setting.
Story
The upcoming video game reinterprets the events of Horizon Zero Dawn, with Aloy still the main protagonist in the story. Aloy, who originated from the Nora tribe, was cast out after birth but found refuge from Rost, another outcast. Rost would then raise Aloy and train her in combat, only for Rost to sacrifice his life to save Aloy from Helis. Helis is the main antagonist in the story and the leader of the masked cultists who follow an ancient evil.
However, Aloy has now won the Proving and is accepted back to the Nora tribe by the Matriarchs. They even name her the Seeker and release her to pursue the cultists. In her pursuit, Aloy uncovers the secret behind the cultists and why she’s their target. She learns that their post-apocalyptic world resulted from the destructive military robots belonging to Faro from Faro Automated Solutions after he lost control of them. They were self-replicating robots that could consume biomass. Eventually, they overwhelmed the biosphere and ravaged the Earth.
Besides restoring Earth’s life, Aloy is on a mission to uncover the fate of the Old. She discovers Sobeck’s AI systems are meant to deactivate the Faro robots and create animalistic equipment. These machines would restore life to Earth through preserved DNA. Aloy is, however, captured and sentenced to death by Helis but manages to escape.
In LEGO Horizon Adventures, you join Aloy in this quest as she attempts to save the forests, meadows, and mountains from Helis and his gang of cultists. However, the storyline shifts its focus from the post-apocalyptic to Aloy, her relationship with friends and family, and the environmental cues.
Gameplay
The new game deviates from Horizon Zero Dawn’s third-person perspective gameplay. You will be playing LEGO Horizon Adventures from a new isometric gameplay perspective. The playthrough progresses in an action-adventure experience in a lifetime memorable adventure. You can explore the open world freely and return to your camp when you wish. And for those who acquire the game’s digital deluxe edition, you will enjoy riding the roller coaster in your adventures. The map features stunning locations inspired by Horizon but with the beauty of LEGO bricks. The game also offers extensive customization options for the main protagonist, Aloy, and the game’s world as well.
How you want to experience LEGO Horizon Adventure’s gameplay is your choice. The developers designed it to allow fans to dive into the exciting adventure solo or with friends. However, the coop multiplayer mode only supports two players. Players can switch to different difficulty levels depending on their levels of experience with the game. You have five distinct difficulty options that you can switch in your runs with the game. The Horizon Zero Dawn’s weak point targeting system also returns in LEGO Horizon Adventures.
Development
For now, it’s still unclear when LEGO Horizon Adventures‘ development began. However, Guerilla Games announced their partnership with Studio Gobo in January 2023, citing it as a partnership to balloon the Horizon universe. After their first two Horizon titles, Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbissen West, Guerilla Games envisioned a more light-hearted sequel. Their desire aligned with LEGO Group, who found Horizon a perfect fit thanks to their titles' vibrant visuals and inclusive themes.
LEGO’s major contribution comes in the game’s visuals and animations. It features gorgeous graphics and eye-catching 4K visuals that delight players as they move through the beautiful environments. The developers ensure seamless gameplay with quick load times. Players can enjoy free runs and revisit their favorite levels at ultra-high speeds.
Further, the title is designed with two editions, including the standard game with a physical launch and a digital deluxe edition. The standard edition will also be available digitally. However, players will have additional perks for the exclusively digital deluxe edition. These include the roller coaster and up to six additional outfits. This edition will also cost $10 more than the standard edition. The standard game costs $59.99 whether you have a digital or physical copy.
