If you get a weapon in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, which might grab a special place in your heart, upgrading it will make it better in the long run.
It’s relatively easy to find weapons in The Zone, but not all of them are built equal. Some, like the Reimann SMG, are rare guns, and you’ll want to upgrade them to keep using them for a long time. Thankfully, there’s a really systematic way to upgrade them once you know where to look for them.
Stalker 2 weapon upgrade system epxlained
When you’re at any settlement in Stalker 2, you’ll come across certain NPCs with whom you can interact. Some of them will hand you side quests, while others will allow you to access certain QoL features. You’ll need to find the Technician (When you start playing, it’s going to be Lens in Zalissya in Lesser Zone).
Once you interact with him (or any other Technician), you’ll have two options. You can choose to repair a weapon or upgrade it in exchange for resources. Once you select a gun, all the available upgrades will be displayed.
The parts that you can upgrade will be highlighted, and you’ll be able to see all the upgrade effects. Some upgrades are mutually reliant on each other- you can’t unlock the second without activating the first one. Others are mutually exclusive, which means if you activate one, the other will stay deactivated.
When it comes to upgrades in Stalker 2, there are a few pointers worth noting.
- Not all weapons can get the same number of upgrades. The available upgrade modules will differ, and you might want to invest in a gun which might have good potential choices over immediate power.
- Not every upgrade can be installed by every technician. If you come across such a problem, you’ll want to find a technician in another settlement.
- Any weapon that has lower than 40% durability can’t be upgraded. In such cases, you can repair them first from the technician before trying to upgrade them.
Like repairs, upgrades also require coupons. The price will vary based on the upgrade and the weapon you choose. In some cases, upgrading a weapon will also allow you to equip different attachments to them, making them far more powerful.
